Hi Maya! Will be trying this recipe for my husband’s birthday this weekend. I’m new to keto and my husband is supporting me with cutting out sugar as much as he can. I just have 1 question – in the nutrition facts, you mentioned net carbs 5g, fiber 1g and sugar 2g. What is the difference between net carbs and sugar? I thought the sugar count is a part of total carbs subtracting the fiber which would mean the sugar count is equal to the net carbs? Hope you can explain further! Thank you 🙂

The problem with some meats when you’re on Keto is that they are too lean. That means, even though it’s low in carbs, some meat has too much protein and not enough fat. That doesn’t mean you can’t have those meats. It just means you’ll need to be careful not to go over your protein macro. And if there isn’t enough fat in the meat you eat, then you will want to pick up some extra, healthy fat somewhere else.
I'm asking because I'm on keto diet and finding how to get as much fiber as possible.If I need at least 25g of fiber/day(WHO), and for example not to exceed 50g of net carbs/day on Keto the math is easy. I can technically eat only food with max. ratio 1g fibre to 2g net carb - it means approx. half of nuts & seeds you listed. But If I multiply the fibre content by 0.3 to have just soluble fibre, I can't eat almost no nuts & seeds 😊
Truly amazed after trying dozens of recipes for bread, cake, etc. with almond flour and all turned to sawdust or icky, hard yuk! All the wasted expensive ingredients, I have finally hit gold with this recipe exactly as written! Great info. I’ll be starting again Jan 1, started before but barely got into it when I ended up in the hospital for respiratory failure, didn’t want to start a program like this on hospital food. Anyway, after doctors and oxygen, etc., I’m back in the right frame of mind, cleared out all my cupboards, fridge, etc., just have enough to get me to Jan 1. It’s been a horrible year, so gonna make 2019 MY year, all ways around. This list will help a lot, since I keep forgetting whats what, and was eating honey, thinking it was OK since it was natural, etc…..wrong! I think I kind of have the rest OK, but thanks for the reference sheet, this will help a lot.

I scanned all my ingredients and also clicked on your links. My almond flour matches with the same amount of carbs but when I input everything, it has my net carbs as 4. My app may round up for some (I use Carb Manager). I think for me, the full carbs from the cream cheese is 32 oz of cream cheese at 32 net carbs (my box of cream cheese shows >1 for 1 oz) Bobs Red Mill almond flour at 2 cups for 24 net carbs and my 3 eggs show 1 carb. All together it puts it at 3.56 carbs per slice based on just those carbs. So not too far off from the 3 carbs.

Nuts should not be one of your major sources of fat in the diet. This is because they contain carbohydrates as well as phytic acid (are a pretty high in calories). Phytic acid absorbs essential dietary minerals such as magnesium which is essential for the utilization of vitamin D among many others. In moderation however, similar to cheese nuts are acceptable as part of your keto diet plan, taken as a snack, for instance. To avoid the phytic acid, you could soak or sprout your nuts but for most people on a ketogenic diet it’s not worth the effort due to the fact it a very small part of their daily intake.
