This is one area where full keto and Bulletproof differ. Except for coconut, all nuts and legumes are suspect on the Bulletproof Diet and should be limited. All expose you to high amounts of omega-6s, inflammatory oxidized fats, mold toxins, and phytates (plant anti-nutrients). Peanuts are one of the main sources of mold toxins in our diets, and often trigger allergic responses with inflammatory polyunsaturated fats, lectins and histamines. Most vegan protein sources (lentils, beans) are way too carb-heavy for keto, even if you don’t care that much about sticking to a strict Paleo diet. It would likely be lower in protein than a meat-heavy keto diet, but if that works well for you, then it’s totally fine!


I’ve made this before for my husband’s birthday a few weeks ago and it was a huge hit! I’m wanting to make it again but realized that I’m out of vanilla extract for this time around. I have coffee, lemon, cinnamon, and peppermint extracts. What would you recommend as a vanilla extract substitute? I’m out of almond extract too.. How much to use also?

Having said that, there is no (medical) reason for which these foods should be avoided. It does make life easier if you skip them as they are sometimes hard to find - you do have to find what works best for you. If using low-carb sweeteners and bread substitutes keep most people away from sugar and starch laden foods that's great. Just wanted to say thank you! I followed this recipe and if you would’ve served me this at a restaurant I wouldn’t know the difference between this and regular cheesecake! Some minor changes I did only because of the ingredients I had available were to use coconut flour vs almond flour, stevia packs (converted) vs. erythritol for both crust and batter, and just a small amount of almond milk to get the right consistency for the crust. For anyone who may need it, for every cup of almond flour I substituted 1/4 cup (or 2 ounces weighed) of coconut flour. Along with the almond milk, I increased the amount of butter used by about 1 tbsp since coconut flour really sucks up moisture. After that, I followed everything else listed including directions and was not disappointed. Although I used an incorrect pan type(only 2inch high 9inch solid baking pan) so I wasn’t the prettiest cheesecake, it was still delicious which is honestly all I cared about. I might also add that this is the first time I’ve ever baked cheesecake (or any type of baking) of any type, so for anyone who might think it’s difficult, give it a try!

Avoid adding high-glycemic sweeteners to either food and 5 ounces of both plain Greek yogurt and cottage cheese will have about 5 grams of carbs. Cottage cheese packs the stronger protein punch with 18 grams compared to 11 grams of protein in the yogurt (49, 50).  Because these are higher in protein and lower in fat they are not technically ketogenic foods and you must be careful not to over consume these.  As with any dairy, choose yogurt and cottage cheese sourced from grass-fed cows for maximum nutrition.
The consensus is that the Carbs shown on nutritional labels for yogurt containers are extremely misleading. The fermentation process brought on by the active cultures in yogurt, consume roughly half of the stated carbs. Thank you SO much for the breakdown. This is an excellent list that I am going to take with me to the store from now on. I haven’t started on the diet as of yet because I was trying to put a grocery list together. This list has been one of VERY few that have the foods and the guided amount without having to pay an absurd amount of money for a list of food you can and cant eat. There weren’t any recommended amounts to eat for the meat section and wanted to know if you had any recommendations for portions. Thanks again for taking time to get wonderful information out there.
One of the best things about being on the keto diet is the emphasis on consuming good fats. In my case, that means indulging in nuts whenever I need a quick pick-me-up. However, it's important to note that not all nuts are created equal when you're on the keto diet. Since the emphasis with keto focuses on low carbs and high fats, you have to keep an eye on serving sizes as well as knowing which nuts bring the most bang for your buck as far as fats are concerned. (Say goodbye to peanuts.)

So that spoon you are using looks rather large, I’m not sure I have one that large, much less 6 of them. Yo do hang them individually, right? Also I’m not sure I’ll have the counter space or cups to do 6 separately… am I understanding this right? Are there other ideas for the hanging part? Have you tried any taco shell molds or the racks? Just curious if these would work also?
So easy to make! I used powdered monkfruit sweetener instead of the Erythritol. Just took it out from the oven, no cracks and is jiggly like it should be but it browned a bit on top. It also rose a lot so I am sure I overmixed it. It’s cooling on the counter right now before going in the fridge can’t wait to try it tomorrow. Next time I’ll be careful with the mixing and keep and eye on it instead of solely relying on the timer. Thanks Maya!
