Water, Water everywhere why don’t you drink?

Hello peeps ! Hope you enjoyed the blog post last week! It is always good to break the monotony and get some laughs.

When I played basketball on the high school and collegiate level,  I would come out of the game and refuse water from the trainer. I thought drinking water was only for those who were tired and I wouldn’t let anyone see I was tired! It took me some time to realize I was really stupid! I didn’t know how much I was sacrificing my athletic performance and potentially my health by refusing to drink water.

Water is a very important nutrient. How important is it? Water makes up over 45-70 % of your total body weight. To put this in a different perspective you can go 30 days without food but only 4 to 10 days without water. I would say that is pretty important.  Here are some facts about water that you may not know:

·    Weight loss- Water has no calories! So instead of having a soft drink or some “sugary” juice grab a glass of water.
·    Heart helpful—Drinking water can lower your risk for heart attack.
·    Energy—If you find yourself “tapped out” during the day, chances are you are dehydrated and need water.
·    Headache cure- If you are having constant headaches, guess what? You need to drink more water.
·    Cleansing—Water helps to “flush out” toxins in the body.

Most people only drink water only when they feel thirsty and this is a “no no” Why?  The sensation of thirst is a poor indicator because the body is already dehydrated when this happens. The recommended intake of water is 8x 8 ( eight 8 ounce glasses of water per day). This could vary in each individual in relation to activity, size, etc. but serves as a guideline. Are you drinking enough water and not soft drinks and juices? There have been cases reported where diseases, digestive problems, and skin problems have been cured by drinking water.
