Michael Jordan says, “Limits like fears are illusions”.

By

In cased you missed it, Michael Jordan was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame last week. I think everyone knows who #23 is, the number speaks for itself! In my opinion, Michael Jordan and Dr. J were the best basketball players to ever put on basketball uniforms! As Jordan delivered his acceptance speech, he talked about the people and events that molded him into the greatest player to ever play the came. He told about what people said couldn’t be done and more importantly what he couldn’t do and how it motivated him. He repeatedly talked about how these things added “fuel” to his fire to continuously motivate him to get better and practice harder, so he could maintain his superstar status. He ended his speech by saying” limits like fears, are just illusions.” This is true in every sense of the word.

What motivates you, more importantly, what motivates you to exercise? I see many people who want to get in shape for weddings, class reunions, or some other event but after the event has ended, guess what happens? They fall right back into the pattern of being lazy and getting out of shape. Fitness is a life long commitment and you will constantly have to add fuel to your fire to keep it going. It may mean changing your workout to include weights or resistance bands. It might even mean trying yoga or some  other program you would never have tried.  You’ll have to keep adjusting your goals and add a little bit of motivation to get there. Why? After a while, once you have achieved a goal there is a tendency to get “lax” and fall back into mediocrity. It happens to everyone once the initial goal is reached. Keep things fresh!

In conclusion, Air Jordan ended his speech the same way he ended his career as a champion. His last comment was very appropriate as  “limits like fears are just illusions.”
I have personally thought I had limits to what I could do when working out but when I  pushed myself I realized it was me and only me stopping my progress. Remember… push a little harder and you’ll climb a little higher and reach your fitness goals. Don’t believe the illusion. See you on the lean side…Dee
