Exercise Training : Go Paleo… Forbidden Dairy
By · CommentsAs promised, here is part two of the “Go Paleo” post. I am going to discuss why certain things are forbidden on the diet but before I do that, I wanted to say something. I am in no way trying to say what you are presently doing is bad with your diet, but I do want you to know options exist. There was a time when I thought the bad feeling I got after eating some foods was just something I had to deal with because my body needed it. I am finding this is no longer true as I have done my own research. I found the rules for eating were being “pushed” by people and corporations who would benefit from a monetary standpoint and cared nothing about my health. Do your own research and be your own judge and stop letting outside influences dictate your health and well being. Now … for the post
Forbidden fruit… I mean dairy
So why is dairy forbidden in the Paleo diet? There are many reason why but the most obvious is dairy producing animals weren’t domesticated centuries ago so people didn’t drink or eat dairy. I’ll give you several other reasons why dairy is not allowed on Paleo and why it might be best to avoid it but before I do, take a look at the picture on this post. It is the picture of an African woman from the Maasai tribe. Did you know they drink cow’s blood? Ok…now for the reasons to avoid dairy:

1. Human Beings are the only species who continue to consume milk after infancy and it isn’t even our milk! It comes from another animal.
2. The natural occurring hormones in cow’s milk are already stronger than humans yet cows are given steroids and other hormones to make them bigger and produce more milk. If you ever wondered why 9 year old boys are walking around with full beards and 9 year old girls are having menstrual cycles this might be why.
3. When dairy is consumed it becomes acidic. Scientists have confirmed an acidic body is a haven for diseases and one of the well known ones is cancer. Your body should remain alkaline to combat such diseases.
4. Cows are often fed inappropriate food. Cows eat grass but because everyone wants things faster nowadays they are fed soy, corn, and antibiotics. These things can make the cow sick and a sick cow means sick milk.
5. Did you know the countries with the highest incidences of osteoporosis consume the most dairy? Oh, but wait a minute don’t they want you to believe you get calcium from milk? You can get the same calcium from leafy green vegetables minus the hormones.
6. When dairy is pasteurized, it kills the vitamins and protein in the milk, not to mention the enzymes needed for digestion. This is why lactose intolerance occurs and why experts recommend consuming raw milk but the government has outlawed it. Are you getting the connection?
7. Dairy products form mucous in the body. It has been linked to respiratory ailments
8. Dairy has been linked to arthritis. In a study, a scientist was able to produce arthritis in animals by switching their water to milk.
I want to thank Michelle Cook for an article she wrote called “11 reasons to stop eating dairy” which I used as a resource for this post. You can see the article HERE.

Exercise Training: Go Paleo

What if I could give you the secrets to all this? What would you say? Well, I can do it and I am experiencing it first hand myself. After I completed the Master Cleanse, I made an effort to change my diet. I wanted to cleanse myself of the nasty carbs and the processed sugar which was a part of my life for many years. I also unknowingly rid myself of some of the other things which may have been giving me a problem. I feel so much better now!!! I’ll tell you how I did it!

I Go Paleo
Have you ever heard of the Paleo Diet plan? The plan consists of how people ate centuries ago before there were Twinkies, potato chips, or fast food. How did We ever survive before all the processed crap came on the market? For most of us, it’s hard to think of a simple time when people ate protein consisting of meat, carbs from vegetables, and fruit. There were no supermarkets where we could load up our carts with ice cream, cookies, and TV dinners. As a result, people were healthier and obesity was rare. This isn’t the case now. I can walk down the street and 1 out of every 2 people I meet might be overweight or severely overweight! If you think I am exaggerating, try observing this for yourself. It’s the main reason I gave Paleo a try and I am very glad it did it. Here is what Paleo eating involves:
NO
Grains
Potatoes
Lentils
Dairy
Processed sugar
Preservatives
For years, I have been wanting to get dairy out of my diet but had a love affair with pizza. I didn’t want to give it up! I am not sure why because I am lactose intolerant and it gave me all sorts of problems, but I still had to have it. I finally “kicked” the pizza habit and almond milk and coconut milk have made easier substitutes for any other recipes or treats calling for dairy.
Want to go Paleo?
If you want to do the Paleo diet, it does require sacrifice. You’ll need to prepare your meals in advance which you should be doing anyway, right? Most restaurants aren’t Paleo friendly but you can find your occasional salad with no cheese or croutons, etc. and some places you frequent, might let you special order things if you ask. You can do it, it just takes effort and planning!
I benefit from Paleo
I have had great success from the Paleo Plan. I no longer wake up feeling tired even after I have gotten the right amount of sleep. I have more energy than I have had in years and my body seems to recover better after exercise. I have also found it easier to keep my belly fat down. I’ll be posting more on Paleo and the philosophy of why certain things are forbidden. Keep reading and commenting. See you on the lean side…Darren

Exercise Training : Hungry or Thirsty?
By · CommentsI eat when I’m bored. I know I do it, so I have to make sure I keep myself entertained all the time. It was the main reason I gained an extra 30 lbs years ago, but it wasn’t the only reason. The other reason was just being plain ol’ lazy! Exercise became a chore for me and I thought I would always be in shape. Who knew you had to work at this especially as you got older? I surely didn’t think you had to and as a result, I stuffed my face even though I wasn’t hungry.
Are you really hungry?
How do you know you are really hungry? I would be willing to bet most of you reading this would say a symptom of hunger is a growling stomach. I use to think the same thing until I started intermittent fasting two days a week. Because of the fasting, I no longer associate a growling stomach with hunger as I am going 24 hours without food. I have gotten accustomed to fasting and no longer experience any hunger pains. Fasting has been the best way I have found to control my boredom and pointless eating. I can go on and on about fasting and the degree of control it has given me over my eating, but it also provided me with an epiphany. What distinguishes hunger from thirst?
I discovered something during my first couple of times I fasted. Would you like to know what it was? I realized the stomach rumblings I had were cries from my body for water! I would drink water and the “growls” would go away. Once I discovered this, it was so easy for make to make it through a 24 hour fast! I wonder how many other people get confused over hunger and thirst? Is this why some people over eat? True hunger is felt in the throat and mouth and not the stomach. Most of us think we are hungry when it really is thirst. When your body asks for water, don’t ignore it. It just might be trying to save you a pound or two. See you on the lean side. Do you have any experiences with hunger vs. thirst? I would like to hear it. Leave me a comment….thanks!

Exercise Training: From Pain to Pleasure
By · CommentsHave you ever experienced pain? I know that is a silly question, so I might need to be a bit more specific. Have you ever experienced any body pain? When I say body pain, I mean back and knee pain. Did you know back pain is the most common reason people miss work? Experts say 80% of the population will have a back problem at some time in their life.
How much you get for a slip and fall in a store?
If you have ever seen the movie Friday, you might remember a character called Ezal. In one of my favorite scenes, Ezal asks , “ how much you get for a slip and fall in a store?” The scene from the movie is funny, but what if this happens to someone for real? It can happen at anytime to anyone, but what about back pain which isn’t the result of an accident? Have you ever experienced that sort of pain? I have. I am approaching the ripe age of 40 this year and from time to time, I have what I like to call “old man pains”. These pains come out of nowhere and seem to leave as quick as they appear. I am glad they leave as fast as they come, but years ago I wasn’t so lucky.
What the hell is wrong with my back?
After my basketball career was over, I sat around and became a slob. I ate tons of food and exercise consisted of lifting the remote to change the tv channel. I was stilI an athlete in my mind, but my body was showing me something very different from my thoughts. I looked like hell from the excessive weight I picked up and my body started throwing me hints. The hints consisted of back pain and knee pain which kept me in physical therapy for a couple of months. It took some time, but I finally realized my back and knee pain had a direct correlation to my weight gain. I immediately committed myself to dropping weight and soon after my back and knee pain vanished.
What is your ideal weight
I know what my ideal weight is now. How do I know? I can tell when I am gaining too much weight when I start feeling it in my weight bearing joints which are my back and knees. I make it a habit to consciously be aware of what I am eating and start to make adjustments. Are you having any back problems or knee problems which might be related to weight gain? I would like to hear about it. Please leave a comment on the blog!!! See you on the lean side… Darren
