Does the above quote sound familiar? It was a famous line uttered by Dr. David Banner on the 1980s show, “The Incredible Hulk.” It was the first time I got to see a comic book hero on mainstream TV and not in a cartoon. It was also the first time I saw a bodybuilder as massive as Lou Ferrigno. I can remember thinking to myself how in the hell does someone get to be that big, strong, and ripped? Well, later on, I found out it was steroids but when you’re young and naive you want to believe in fantasy and deal little with reality. After all…it’s our imaginations that we lose first when we grow up and become adults right? For the record, I still have my imagination and like to believe anything is possible!

I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s with cartoons like “Spacccceeee Ghost” and the “Smurfs.” If you watched Space Ghost, you’ll know exactly why I spelled it that way. I loved the way the voice actor said his name at the end of the show! I also enjoyed the Smurfs which by the way are making a come back to movie theaters this summer. A brotha is getting a bit sentimental and nostalgic now, but I’ve heard many times there is never anything really “new” things are just reinvented. I tend to believe that since I am starting to see some basketball players wear flat tops again like I did when I played in high school. I have even started seeing kids breakdancing again and when I do, I get excited just like I did when I was in my teens. Weird huh? But I digress.

Where was I? Oh, I was talking about Saturday morning cartoons. I did enjoy the cartoons but I also loved the commercials. One commercial I think I’ll never forget is for Cocoa Puffs, remember that one? It was the one where Sonny the cuckoo bird would run around saying, “I’m cuckoo for cocoa puffs!” and he would do anything to get them. I can relate to Sonny because I have suddenly become cuckoo for coconut oil! I read about coconut oil a while ago in “Natural Cures They Don’t Want You to Know About” but I really didn’t take much notice. It wasn’t until I heard Dr. Bruce Fife talk about it on the Underground Wellness Show that I really stood up and took notice of this miracle oil. I have since integrated it into my daily routine and can truly say, “I’M CUCKOO FOR COCONUT OIL” and COCONUT OIL RECIPES!

 

Coconut Oil Recipes -How to Take Coconut Oil

Is coconut oil hard to take? Does it taste like Castor Oil? It isn’t hard to take and no it doesn’t taste like castor oil. If it did, I wouldn’t be taking it because I can’t stand castor oil. I am scarred for life now because of my grandmother making me take it as a child. The only way to describe coconut oil is smooth and creamy with a hint of tropical goodness. It can be taken one of two ways: as a solid or a liquid. Coco oil changes into a solid if it’s below room temperature, so keep that in mind. If you prefer to take it as a liquid, you can sit the jar in some warm water or place it next to the stove while cooking and it should melt. I have found the coconut oil lasts a little longer when you take it as a liquid because you can judge how much you’re putting on the spoon. As a rule, three tablespoons should be plenty to reap the benefits of coconut oil. I take it after every meal and my body thanks me for it!

Coco oil got a bad rap years ago because it was classified as a saturated fat. Remember when doctors said saturated fats were a no no? The reason for this was these type of fats were linked to heart disease. Since this time, much has come forth to support this oil as one of the best out there with multipurpose uses. The oil consists of medium chain fatty acids (MCFA’s) which are much different than the traditional long chain fatty acids (LCFA’s) which can be stored in the body. Since coconut oil is a MCFA, it’s readily used by the body and doesn’t get stored as fat. Sounds too good to be true, huh? In many tropical countries where large amounts of this oil is consumed there is much less disease opposed to the westernized world. Here are couple of things coco oil is great for:

I haven’t done a book review in a while. That’s because I haven’t had time to do any reading…starting a bootcamp and working on internet marketing is taking up “hella” time. I did manage to find some time to hit the library and pick up a book. I read the majority of it while lying on the beach on Sunday mornings and “chillaxing”. When I was in grade school and high school, I loved PE! I think it was my favorite thing about school other than lunch. I think it might have beat out lunch except our school had the best damn cinnamon rolls and pizza on the planet and when you combined it with the “extra” chocolate milk you paid 25 cents for it was like having a little slice of heaven. I am getting chills right now just thinkin’ bout it! There is only one thing I would do to improve on the moment and that would be to switch the “dairy” milk to chocolate almond milk. Speaking of chocolate almond milk, have you tasted it? I held back from it for a long time because I thought it was pastey and artificial tasting. “Delicious is the chocolate almond milk” as my friend Yoda would say. Try it if you haven’t. Oh yeah, where was I?
